An
article on the BBC caught my eye. The headline says it all: “Richest 1% to own
more than rest of world, Oxfam says.”
Here
are my brief thoughts.
The
Occupy demonstrations were a veritable mirage. The rich will keep getting
richer. We can read such headlines and vent our spleen. Yes, we can express our
scorching disdain and perdurable envy of the rich. However, they will keep
laughing all the way to the bank.
If
the situation seems as dystopian as some believe, my simple question is this:
“What are we the masses doing?”
Stack
shelves in a supermarket, come home and watch Eastenders, and do nothing to
improve yourself; and you erroneously believe your lot will change?
While
some have achieved their wealth pillaging and plundering the masses, and should
be rightly pilloried and proscripted for such; there are also those who have
channelled their strengths, intellect, and talents to strenuous, arduous, and
sedulous activities in order to make their fortune. Of these, many made huge
sacrifices that the average Joe or plain Jane will flinch from.
We
may shout and complain and hope that governments will show a modicum of mercy
and improve our lot. I am hugely sceptical they will fix anybody’s situation.
Believe it or not, they will continue giving more power to the rich!
Our
enlarging anger will leave us with interminable frustration. And while this
will irk and ache many, it will continue to be more power to the rich.
Nonetheless,
to all those interested in bettering their lot through meaningful action,
concerted effort, and unbreakable focus and determination: there is hope for your
future.
